Delungra Bowling Club goes purple for Georgi
3rd of Sep, 2020 10:25 am

A fundraiser at Delungra Bowling Club will raise money to support local girl Georgi Potter through treatment after being diagnosed with Myeloid Leakaemia on June 25.

The small village of Delungra is much better described as a close-knit family and with Georgi's grandfather Lionel Johnson being a Bowling Club director- other board members took action to show their support.

Club treasurer Amy Taylor said the idea to host a fundraising event for Georgi started when president Gail Pennington pledged to dye her hair bright purple if the club could raise $500.

"It really just snowballed from there. Georgi's parents and family got involved and approached local businesses, they got a heap of donations and the date was set to host a fundraising night," she said.

The Delungra Bowlo will go purple on Saturday, September 26 and everyone is invited to join in on the COVID-19 safe festivities and show their support for Georgi.

There will be a monster raffle, with 50 prizes on offer and a silent auction of 17 items. Many businesses in Delungra and Inverell generously donated an array of items for the cause.

Amy has decided to join club president, and mother, Gail in dying her hair. The two are booked in to get their hair coloured purple on Monday, September 7 at Divinity by Sarah Crichlow.

"I decided to also dye my hair purple as a statement to start a talking point for the fundraiser."

Purple decorations will cover the surfaces, walls and floors of the bowlo and there will be purple hair spray for any local children who might want to match Gail and Amy's hairstyle- temporarily- on Saturday evening.

The club invites those interested in attending to bring a picnic rug, as the festivities are likely to be set up as a picnic-style barbecue evening outside on the bowling green.

For those who wish to purchase a raffle ticket, can do so via this link: https://www.raffletix.com.au/purpleforgeorgi or by calling the bowling club on 6724 8204.
